Maintenance

Now that I have an apartment that I am mostly happy with, I need to maintain it as it is unlikely that I will have the time to do a mass cleanup again. Nor do I have a desire to do this again - as I said when I started the January Cure, I wanted my apartment to just work for me. I have no plans to bring in anything new (unless I plan to let the second bedroom...) and so will have nothing to sell or remove in the future.

For the curious (including me down the track) these were my January Cure expenditures:

  •  $20 - Ikea basket for foam rollers and yoga mat
  •  $13 - Officeworks basket large enough for bike stuff
  •  $12 - Ikea shelf for running, cycling and other knick knacks
  •  $8 - Ikea pot and bargin bin boxes for holding the knick knacks
  •  $8 - Ikea Kassett boxes for sports bandages and for nail polishes
  •  $3 - Ikea Kassett box from bargin bin for my cross-stitch and crafty endevours
  •  $45 - Ikea Ribba frames for Melbourne photos
  •  $109 subtotal
  •  $62 for desk lamp (from one of the SupaCenta lighting shops)
  •  $140 for Ikea Alex drawers
  •  $0 for Ikea desk from Gumtree
  • -$100 for selling old desk
  •  $102 subtotal for upgrades I was considering (or had started obtaining) before January Cure
  • $211 TOTAL

The next step in making sure that my apartment works for me is maintenance. I was thinking of having a monthly schedule - so that for each month (except February) I could have 30 mini tasks rather than losing most of my weekend non-PhD day to maintenance.

  1. That's really not a bad $$ total at all! Great work - you seem so dedicated to all your little tasks

    1. Thanks! It was definitely worth the effort when the real estate agent called to make an appointment in the coming weeks for the annual inspection. As the place was already looking great, he came by two days after the phone conversation!

    1. Thanks for stopping by! Yes, give the January Cure a go - it breaks things down and then you'll have a lovely living space in most areas (I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with my kitchen drawer contents!)

    2. I think I just sounded a bit stalkerish! Promise I'm not! Ended up here from VF.

I think I will. My house is pretty good, but it has areas that need work!! I'll link back to you!

    1. It was a couple of years old and the previous owner was moving. She was selling it for $25 but when I found out how heavy it was and that it needed two people to move it, I wasn't so keen. She wanted to get rid of it, so I took it home and put a note on Facebook for someone to give me a hand when they had the time. It worked out in the end.

I am on Twitter (@cestaz) although it's currently just my dailymile entries! I'll get back into it as Facebook is increasing its advertisement posts and annoying me!
